Control Fire TV with voice (with Echo, Alexa without remote)

Control Fire TV with voice (with Echo, Alexa without remote)

If we have an Amazon Echo device, like the good Echo Dot, now it is possible Command the Fire TV Stick using your voice, without the need for the remote control. Without then having to press the voice control key on the Fire TV remote control, you can move the menus simply by speaking, thanks to the connection between Fire TV and Echo. With this system, you can not only search for episodes, movies and TV series, but also start and stop playback, go back and then view the information requested by the voice assistant on the TV, such as the weather, calendar or other. You can also view images captured by a security camera connected to Alexa on TV and provides an alternative when you can't find the Fire TV Stick remote or don't want to get up to grab it and control everything with just your voice.

The only requirement to use Fire TV with voice is that it is connected to an Amazon Echo device. This can be easily done now, using the Alexa app on Android or iPhone. If the same Amazon account is set up on Fire TV and Echo, if the Alexa app is enabled in the Fire TV settings, simply use the Alexa app on your phone to add Fire TV to Echo controlled devices.

In the Alexa app, go to the tab Other, then touch configurations and finally in TV and video: Here you can press the Fire TV icon to add the device to the Alexa control. Automatic pairing can be accomplished by telling Alexa on Echo to play a movie; Next, Alexa will ask if you want to activate Fire TV voice control.

Once this is done, without using a phone or remote control, it is possible tell our Echo or Echo Dot device: Something like "Alexa, show me the weather"to see the weather forecast on the TV screen, without answering with your voice.

The most useful commands with Alexa to control the Fire TV They are as follows:

  • Alexa Apri Netflix (can be used for any installed application).
  • Alexa finds "title" (Alexa will search for a movie or show from all installed apps, like Netflix or Prime Video.)
  • Alexa put the title of the movie (to immediately start playing the movie you are looking for).
  • Alexa finds comedies (Alexa will search for movies in that genre.)
  • Alexa search the title on Youtube (to search specifically on Youtube; the specific search does not work for all applications).
  • Alexa Return to Home O Go home (to return to the main screen).

  • Alexa Swipe left or right (to move the selection to the right or left four items to move faster).
